| Summary: | The present study was conducted in Bolívar Province, Guaranda Canton, San Simón Parish, with the objective of evaluating the effect of different zinc levels in drinking water on growth, feed conversion, immunity, and profitability in broiler chickens. The treatments were: T1 (Control), T2 (0.1 g/l), T3 (0.2 g/l), and T4 (0.3 g/l). For initial weight, T4 had the highest average (46.20 g) and T1 the lowest (44.20 g), with low variability (CV = 2.40%). Throughout the weeks, T4 stood out in several stages for its higher weight and gain, although T3 showed similar performance. In week 6, T3 recorded the highest weight (2390.40 g), followed by T4 (2388.10 g). Statistical differences were evident in most records, with generally low coefficients of variation, indicating uniformity in the data. In terms of weight gain, T4 led in week 2 (292.7 g) and week 5 (560.2 g), while T3 excelled in weeks 3 and 4. Feed intake was similar among treatments (219–222 kg), but T3 and T4 showed better feed conversion ratios (1.80) compared to T1 and T2 (1.83). The highest mortality occurred in T1 (three deaths), and the lowest in T2 and T4 (one death each). Regarding immunity, IgM levels increased after zinc supplementation, with the highest values in T4 (16.3 mg/d) and T3 (14.0 mg/dl), showing a positive dose-dependent effect in the 0.2–0.3 g/l range. However, the benefit/cost ratio was below 1 in all cases, with better values in T3 and T4 (0.95). It is concluded that 0.2–0.3 g/l of zinc optimizes immune response and productive performance, and its controlled use is recommended during critical stages to maximize benefits and avoid unnecessary costs. |
