| Тойм: | The use of plant extracts represents an innovative tool of great importance and usefulness in the research and development of new therapeutic alternatives in the field of veterinary medicine. For this reason, the present experiment aimed to evaluate the healing effect of a cream based on black nightshade (Solanum nigrum) and plantain (Plantago major) in ovariohysterectomy in dogs, methodologically with a study population of 24 dogs that were distributed into the following three groups: T0 (control, zinc oxide cream), T1 (cream with black nightshade extract), and T2 (cream with plantain extract), assessing variables such as age, breed, body condition, length of the ovariohysterectomy wound, healing time, assessment of healing, and a chromatographic analysis of the plant extracts under study. The results showed statistically significant differences (P; 0.0239) in the healing time of the ovariohysterectomy wound, with T2 (Plantago major) being the group with the highest number of patients with a faster healing process compared to T1 (Hierba Mora) and T0 (Zinc Oxide Cream). According to the results, healing in each experimental group was categorized as very good, interpreting that both the plant extracts and the healing agent used in the control group (zinc oxide) act similarly in controlling inflammation. In addition, gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was used to identify and quantify the retention times and abundance of a total of 33 compounds in the blackberry extract and plantain extract, respectively. The plantain extract was found to contain predominantly isosorbide with an abundance of 21.71%, glycerin with 16.88%, acetic acid with 12.33%, hydroxyacetone with 9.62%, and furaneol with 5.85%. In the black nightshade extract, compounds such as glycerin with an abundance of 16.02% and acetic acid with 13.19% were identified, these compounds being the most relevant and biologically important in the healing process. |
