Objetivo: Identificar la prevalencia del Síndrome de Desgaste Profesional (SDP) o “Burnout”, y la asociación con las variables Sociodemográficas y laborales en el personal médico del área de emergencia de un Hospital de Segundo Nivel. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio con enfoque descriptivo correlacional, la población la constituyen 96 médicos de un Hospital de Segundo Nivel. Para la recolección de información se utilizó una encuesta sociodemográfica y el instrumento Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Resultados: La realización personal, agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y el síndrome de Burnout se encuentran asociados al sexo, cargo que ocupa y a la experiencia del médico; siendo así el sexo femenino, los médicos que no tiene especialidad y los médicos con menor experiencia los que reportan mayores puntajes de Síndrome de Burnout. El agotamiento emocional varía significativamente con respecto a la despersonalización y realización personal tanto en hombres como en mujeres |

Objective: Identify the prevalence of burnout syndrome (SDP) or "Burnout", and the association with the sociodemographic and work variables in the medical staff of the emergency area of a Second Level Hospital. Methodology: A study was carried out with a descriptive correlational approach, the population is made up of 96 doctors from a Second Level Hospital. For the collection of information, a sociodemographic survey and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) instrument were used. Results: Personal fulfillment, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and Burnout syndrome are associated with sex, position and the experience of the Physicians; being thus the feminine sex, the Physicians that does not have specialty and the Physicians with smaller experience those that report higher scores of Burnout Syndrome.
