Tomando en cuenta los hábitos de consumo de los ecuatorianos, la tecnología vigente en el país, y sin dejar de lado los riesgos que existen al ser el Banco Central el emisor de la moneda electrónica. En este trabajo se aborda temas referentes al dinero electrónico, desde temas básicos sobre el funcionamiento, pasando por la importancia del Banco Central en este nuevo proyecto y analizando temas más complejos como el respaldo del dinero electrónico. Es una medida que favorece a la inclusión financiera, pero también es necesario un control al Sistema por parte del sector privado. |

The speed and safety for citizens on the transactions are among the main advantages. Ecuador is also taking part of this; the question that rises is: Is Ecuador ready for this change? It must be taken into consideration the consumption habits of Ecuadorians, the technology available in the country, and also the risks of having the Central Bank as the issuing bank of the electronic currency. This paper covers different subjects about electronic currency, from the basics as how it works, to the importance of the Central Bank in this new project, to more complex matters as the backup of the electronic currency.
