Se evalúan factores que afectan a la producción y se mencionan posibles soluciones. Para propósito de este trabajo se ha definido como pequeños arroceros , aquellos que tienen una superficie de 1 a 3 hectáreas, quienes en forma individual no son económicamente ni socialmente viables a menos que se asocien y fortalezcan sus comunidades. Adicionalmente, se identifican los beneficios de la ley y las alternativas para promover un modelo distinto de negocio, que permita incrementar la productividad y mejorar su nivel de vida, a través del cooperativismo. Así mismo, se demuestran casos de cooperativas en diversos países y se considera el mapa de actores que intervienen en la mejora de condiciones de los pequeños productores. |

Through this paper have been evaluated, the most vulnerable points of the rice sector, as well as government supports ,most of the time insufficient. Factors that affect production are evaluated and possible solutions are mention. For the purpose of this paper small rice farmers are defined as those who have an area between 1.and 3 hectares, which individually are nor economic and socially viable. It also identifies, the benefits that the law provides and the different alternatives it brings to create new business models, that would bring an increase in productivity levels as well as a better standard of living through cooperativism.
