Estos se han centrado más en varias áreas de las ciencias médicas como son la odontología al crear nuevos materiales y sistemas para el diagnóstico y tratamiento de los pacientes. Uno de los mayores descubrimientos en la odontología fueron los biomateriales que son materiales que se encargan de sustituir o aumentar el tejido, órgano o función del organismo humano en el que se desea colocar. Y uno de los mejores ejemplos son los injertos óseos, los cuales fueron creados a partir de la necesidad de restaurar y devolver la función a las estructuras alteradas. El objetivo del presente estudios es examinar el efecto tiene la asociación de la biotecnología en la odontología sobre los injertos óseos; mediante un estudio cualitativo, exploratorio, documental, donde se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de más de 30 artículos que nos permite recopilar información y presentar una síntesis de las lecturas ejecutadas para alcanzar una conclusión del tema tratado. Se concluyó que los injertos óseos son una de las mejores alternativas que se pueden implementar al momento de restaurar la perdida de tejido óseo; pero se debe tener mucho criterio y conocimiento sobre estos para poder determinar qué tipo de injerto sería el mejor para el caso clínico en que va a ser empleado.Biotechnology is defined as the application of science and technology to biological systems and living organisms, as well as to parts, products and models thereof, in order to create or change materials (whether they are alive or not) and processes, and to provide understanding, goods and processes. These biotechnological advances have focused more on various areas of medical sciences such as dentistry by creating new materials and systems for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. One of the greatest discoveries in dentistry were biomaterials, which are materials that are responsible for replacing or increasing the tissue, organ or function of the human body in which it is desired to place. One of the best examples are bone grafts, which were created out of the need to restore and return function to altered structures. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the association of biotechnology in dentistry on bone grafts; by means of a qualitative, exploratory, documentary study, where a bibliographic review of more than 30 articles was carried out, which allows gathering information and presenting a synthesis of the readings carried out to reach a conclusion on the subject. It was concluded that bone grafts are one of the best alternatives that can be implemented when restoring the loss of bone tissue; But you must have a lot of criteria and knowledge about these to be able to determine what type of graft would be the best for the clinical case in which it is going to be used.Universidad de Guayaquil.
