Los sistemas cerámicos se clasifican según su composición, método de obtención, ácidos sensibles – ácidos resistentes, propiedades físicas y mecánicas. El criterio de selección del material cerámico se basa en el conocimiento de las propiedades de cada uno, garatizando un óptimo resultado y mejorando su tiempo de vida. Objetivo: Establecer las indicaciones de los sistemas cerámicos en prótesis fija para la correcta selección del material. Método: Se realizó una investigación bibliográfica de artículos científicos de 5 años de revistas como Scielo, PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, incluyendo libros y artículos con publicación de 10 años. Resultado de discusión: Los sistemas cerámicos con mayor fase vítrea obtienen más similitud a las piezas dentarias naturales, y las cerámicas con mayor fase cristalina se visualizan más opacas. Las cerámicas que se obtienen por tecnología CAD-CAM son las que presentan una supervivencia más alta. Conclusión: En este trabajo de investigación se analizaron las características que influyen para la selección de un sistema cerámico se concluyó que son: la estética, la precisión del ajuste marginal, y la resistencia a la fractura. Donde los materiales más estéticos son las cerámicas feldespáticas, seguido por las de disilicato de litio y terminando con los sistemas policristalinosDental ceramics are resistant and aesthetic materials used for restorations that allow the return of functionality and aesthetics in the patient. Ceramic systems are classified according to their composition, production method, sensitive acids - resistant acids, physical and mechanical properties. The selection criteria of the ceramic material is based on the knowledge of the properties of each one, guaranteeing an optimal result and improving its life time. Objective: To establish the indications of ceramic systems in fixed prostheses for the correct selection of the material. Method: A bibliographical search of 5-year scientific articles from journals such as Scielo, PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect was carried out, including books and articles with a 10- year publication. Discussion result: Ceramic systems with a greater vitreous phase obtain more similarity to natural teeth, and ceramics with a greater crystalline phase are visualized more opaque. The ceramics obtained by CAD-CAM technology are those with the highest survival. Conclusion: In this research work, the characteristics that influence the selection of a ceramic system were analyzed, and it was concluded that they are: aesthetics, precision of marginal fit, and resistance to fracture.
