Objetivo: Describir la actualización sobre el diagnóstico y tratamiento del ameloblastoma. Metodología: Revisión sistemática de tipo documental, descriptivo, analítico y retrospectivo en su búsqueda, de método deductivo; a partir de las palabras clave “Ameloblastoma, tumor benigno, tumor odontogénico”, se utilizaron 150 artículos científicos desde el 2016 al 2021, que fueron obtenidos en la web gracias a los buscadores Google Académico, Scielo, RedALyC, y en los metabuscadores PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, de los cuales, en base a criterios de inclusión y exclusión se analizaron 57 artículos. Resultados: El ameloblastoma es un tumor benigno que presenta distintas variantes histológicas, cuyo diagnóstico y tratamiento van a depender del tipo de ameloblastoma que presente el paciente. Conclusión: Gracias a la presente revisión bibliográfica se pudo detallar las características clínicas, radiográficas e histopatológicas de cada tipo de ameloblastoma, de acuerdo a su actual clasificación.Introduction: Ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic epithelial neoplasm, comprising approximately 1% of all cysts and tumors of the jaws and 11-59% of odontogenic tumors; however, despite being benign, it is characterized by locally malignant behavior with a high propensity for recurrence, local invasiveness, and the possibility of direct involvement of vital structures. Objective: To describe the update on the diagnosis and treatment of ameloblastoma. Methodology: Systematic review of documentary type, descriptive, analytical and retrospective in its search, deductive method; from the keywords "Ameloblastoma, benign tumor, odontogenic tumor", 150 scientific articles were used from 2016 to 2021, which were obtained on the web thanks to the search engines Google Scholar, Scielo, RedALyC, and in the meta-search engines PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, of which, based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 57 articles were analyzed. Results: Ameloblastoma is a benign tumor that presents different histologic variants, whose diagnosis and treatment will depend on the type of ameloblastoma presented by the patient.
