Este estudio se adentra en la atención odontopediátrica, explorando las creencias arraigadas en la sociedad y su impacto en la formación de hábitos de higiene bucal. Los objetivos son determinar la relación entre creencias socioculturales y hábitos de higiene oral en niños/as de 5 a 10 años, en la clínica de Odontopediatría de la Facultad Piloto de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil. La metodología adoptada es cuantitativa y analítica sintética, desglosando y luego reconstruyendo las creencias y hábitos para una comprensión integral. Se emplea una encuesta dirigida a una muestra finita de 44 padres, madres y/o cuidadores de niños/as que acudieron a la clínica de Odontopediatría. Los resultados de este estudio revelan que el 43,2% de la muestra consideró a la función principal de dientes temporarios a la alimentación. Respecto a programas educativos, el 95,5% de la muestra consideraron que se debe destacar la higiene bucal en programas educativos. En las conclusiones destacaron prácticas de higiene bucal adecuadas tales como hablar frecuentemente sobre la importancia de la higiene bucal y el uso de cepillo de cerdas suaves en la infancia. No obstante, se reconocieron desafíos como la resistencia de niños/as frente al cuidado bucal y la deficiencia en cuanto al uso del hilo dentalABSTRACT In the context of child oral health, the interaction between sociocultural beliefs and childhood oral hygiene habits takes on a central role. This study delves into pediatric dental care, exploring deeply rooted societal beliefs and their impact on the formation of oral hygiene habits. The objectives are to determine the relationship between sociocultural beliefs and oral hygiene habits in children aged 5 to 10, at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the Pilot Dentistry Faculty at the University of Guayaquil. The adopted methodology is quantitative and synthetically analytical, breaking down and subsequently reconstructing beliefs and habits for a comprehensive understanding. A survey is employed, targeting a finite sample of 44 parents, guardians, and/or caregivers of children who attended the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. The results of this study reveal that 43.2% of the sample considered the primary function of deciduous teeth to be related to feeding. Regarding educational programs, 95.5% of the sample believed that oral hygiene should be emphasized in educational programs. The conclusions highlighted appropriate oral hygiene practices, such as frequently discussing the importance of oral hygiene and using a soft-bristle toothbrush during childhood.
