Objetivo: Determinar el tratamiento para la hiperplasia gingival por consumo de inmusupresores en pacientes con trasplante renal. Método: La metodología empleada en esta investigación tiene un enfoque de tipo exploratorio, retrospectivo, cualitativo y trasversal, empleando un diseño analítico-sintético e histórico-lógico para una revisión bibliográfica. Análisis de Resultados: Varios estudios científicos atribuyen a la hiperplasia gingival como alteración exagerada del tejido gingival como respuesta a varias condiciones sistémicas o locales, pero también puede estar influenciada por el consumo de fármacos como: anticonvulsivos, bloqueadores del calcio e inmusupresores. Los pacientes con trasplante renal consumen inmunosupresores para evitar el rechazo del órgano trasplantado, pero uno de estos inmusupresores como la Ciclosporina A tiene una alta prevalencia del 90% de producir hiperplasia gingival a largo plazo. Conclusiones: Se concluyó que la hiperplasia gingival inducida por inmusupresores tiene varios grados de afectación y dependiendo esto se realizara el tratamiento periodontal ya sea sustituir o ajustar la dosis, tratamiento periodontal no quirúrgico o el tratamiento periodontal quirúrgico si el agrandamiento del tejido gingival es más severo.Introduction: Gingival hyperplasia is a benign pathology characterized by an increase in the size of the gingival tissues, but worldwide there is a prevalence of 4 to 7% of drug-induced hyperplasia; in addition to causing complications such as functional, aesthetic and phonetic alterations. Objective: To determine the treatment for gingival hyperplasia due to the consumption of immunosuppressants in patients with kidney transplants. Method: The methodology used in this research has an exploratory, retrospective, qualitative and cross-sectional approach, using an analytical-synthetic and historical-logical design for a bibliographic review. Analysis of Results: Several scientific studies attribute gingival hyperplasia as an exaggerated alteration of the gingival tissue in response to various systemic or local conditions, but it can also be influenced by the consumption of drugs such as: anticonvulsants, calcium blockers and immunosuppressants. Kidney transplant patients consume immunosuppressants to prevent rejection of the transplanted organ, but one of these immunosuppressants such as Cyclosporin A has a high prevalence of 90% of producing long-term gingival hyperplasia. Conclusions: It was concluded that the gingival hyperplasia induced by immunosuppressants has various degrees of affectation and depending on this, the periodontal treatment will be carried out either by substituting or adjusting the dose, non-surgical periodontal treatment or surgical periodontal treatment if the enlargement of the gingival tissue is more severe.Universidad de Guayaquil.
