Los propósitos de la investigación son: Determinar la frecuencia con que la población de Catarama se recrea; el grado de aceptación de la propuesta de rediseño y ampliación del Malecón, y establecer los aspectos de identidad cultural de Catarama, para plasmarlos en la propuesta de solución arquitectónica al problema. Las técnicas que se aplicaron para el levantamiento de información son encuesta-muestreo, y a través de modalidad de entrevista se encuestaron a 50 familias de los sectores ubicados en un radio de 1.000 metros considerando como punto central el malecón actual. A partir de los resultados obtenidos se tomaron decisiones en función de solventar los espacios que la población demanda. De este modo, se plantea el rediseño y ampliación del malecón de Catarama para incrementar su economía y crear nueva imagen visual en la parte urbanística de dicho cantón.The research aims to confirm that the inhabitants of the cantonal capital Catarama have poor recreational infrastructure, due to the lack of equipment to develop their skills: sports, cultural and social, which has caused discomfort in the population that has needed emigrate to other locations and thus solve their shortcomings of recreation. The purposes of the research are: To determine the frequency with which the population of Catarama recreates itself; the degree of acceptance of the proposed redesign and expansion of the Malecón, and establish aspects of cultural identity of Catarama, to translate them into the proposed architectural solution to the problem. The techniques that were applied for the survey of information are survey-sampling, and through interview modality, 50 families from the sectors located within a radius of 1,000 meters were surveyed considering the current pier as a central point. Based on the results obtained, decisions were made in order to solve the spaces that the population demands.
