El objetivo del presente estudio es la descripción de la actividad antioxidante e hipoglucemiante del Anacardium occidentale especie conocida como marañón en Ecuador, mediante la recolección de datos de estudios realizados a nivel mundial de los extractos bioactivos donde se identificaron fenoles y flavonoides los responsables de brindar las propiedades terapéuticas de reducir el estrés oxidativo, el daño celular y el efecto normoglucemiante. Los métodos empleados en esta investigación fueron bibliográfico, descriptivo y correlacional; los resultados que se dieron a conocer indicaron que el extracto etanólico de las flores posee mayor actividad antioxidante de 0.99 ug/ml basado en la concentración inhibitoria máxima (IC50), en cambio para demostrar la actividad hipoglucemiante se utilizaron biomodelos inducidos con diabetes tipo 2 y con el tratamiento de extractos hidroalcohólico de las hojas se evidenció que en dosis de 750 mg/kg presentan mayor poder reductor de glicemia en un 41.6%.En conclusión se demostró que la especie A. occidentale presentó gran potencial antioxidante e hipoglucemiante mediante métodos in vivo e in vitro. Se recomienda realizar estudios en el Ecuador que demuestren las propiedades antihipertensiva, antioxidante, antibacteriana, analgésica e hipoglucemiante presentes en diversas partes de la planta.Free radicals are reactive and unstable substances that can cause various neurological and circulatory diseases; Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic pathology that occurs at any age and is due to a deficit in insulin production in the blood. The objective of this study is the description of the antioxidant and hypoglycemic activity of Anacardium occidentale, a species known as cashew in Ecuador, through the collection of data from studies carried out worldwide of bioactive extracts where phenols and flavonoids responsible for providing the therapeutic properties of reducing oxidative stress, cell damage and the normoglycemic effect. The methods used in this research were bibliographic, descriptive and correlational; the results that were released indicated that the ethanolic extract of the flowers has a higher antioxidant activity of 0.99 ug / ml based on the maximum inhibitory concentration (IC50), on the other hand, to demonstrate the hypoglycemic activity, biomodels induced with type 2 diabetes and with the treatment of hydroalcoholic extracts of the leaves, it was evidenced that in doses of 750 mg / kg they present a greater glycemic-reducing power by 41.6%. In conclusion, it was shown that the species A. occidentale presented great antioxidant and hypoglycemic potential by in vivo methods and in vitro.
