Los tratamientos antineoplásicos más comunes son la radioterapia y quimioterapia, los mismos que traen complicaciones secundarias a la cavidad oral por lo tanto esto implica una serie de medidas preventivas y consideraciones odontológicas. El OBJETIVO de este trabajo es fundamentar el protocolo de manejo del paciente oncológico por el odontólogo general que contribuya al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida, el METODO de este estudio es exploratorio, documental, descriptiva mediante búsquedas bibliografías en revistas de alto impacto como Rodoe, Elsevier y entre otras, en los RESULTADO se demuestra que los pacientes oncológicos sometidos a tratamiento antineoplásico presentan complicaciones secundarias comunes la xerostomía y mucositis por lo cual la atención odontológica preventiva y rehabilitadora es parte fundamental para el paciente. En CONCLUSION el conocimiento por parte del odontólogo general de las manifestaciones del tratamiento oncológico en la cavidad oral es importante para lograr un adecuado manejo odontológica antes, durante y después del tratamiento antineoplásico.Malignant neoplasms in these times is a chronic disease present in a large part of our population. The most common antineoplastic treatments are radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the same ones that bring secondary complications to the oral cavity, therefore this implies a series of preventive measures and dental considerations. The OBJECTIVE of this work is to base the oncological patient management protocol by the general dentist that contributes to the improvement of the quality of life, the METHOD of this study is exploratory, documentary, descriptive through bibliographic searches in high impact journals such as Rodoe, Elsevier and among others, the RESULTS show that cancer patients undergoing antineoplastic treatment present common secondary complications of xerostomia and mucositis, for which preventive and rehabilitative dental care is a fundamental part for the patient. In CONCLUSION, the knowledge by the general dentist of the manifestations of oncological treatment in the oral cavity is important to achieve adequate dental management before, during and after antineoplastic treatment.Universidad de Guayaquil.
