The main objective of the research is for students to improve their level of English and reading comprehension through the development of a didactic guide to be used by the teacher, equipped with activities and readings specially designed to improve their understanding of the text and train their ability to inference. The guide was developed based on the concept of the PQ4R technique and was focused on students with English level B1. The research used the mixed approach with the analyticalsynthetic types and the inductive-deductive type and used surveys, interviews, and observation sheets to identify the students' problems. The main problem found was that students do not show sufficient interest and motivation to learn and practice English. The bibliographical research demonstrated the effectiveness of the PQ4R technique in the past, so it can be presumed that the guide applied here will be a useful tool for the teacher's teaching of English. Esta investigación se basa en el uso de las técnicas PQ4R para mejorar la comprensión lectora de los estudiantes del colegio Clemente Yerovi Indaburu. El objetivo principal de la investigación es que los estudiantes mejoren su nivel de inglés y comprensión lectora mediante el desarrollo de una guía didáctica a ser usada por el docente, dotada de actividades y lecturas especialmente diseñadas para mejorar su entendimiento del texto y entrenar su capacidad de inferencia. La guía fue desarrollada basándose en el concepto de la técnica PQ4R y estuvo enfocada en los estudiantes con inglés nivel B1. La investigación utilizó el enfoque mixto con los tipos analítico-sintético y tipo inductivo-deductivo y usó encuestas, entrevistas y fichas de observación para identificar los problemas de los estudiantes. El principal problema hallado fue que los estudiantes no demuestran el interés y motivación suficientes para aprender y practicar inglés. La investigación bibliográfica demostró la efectividad de la técnica PQ4R en el pasado, por lo que se puede presumir que la guía aplicada aquí será una herramienta útil para la enseñanza del inglés de parte del profesor.Universidad de Guayaquil.
