En el caso de la periodontitis esta se caracteriza por la presencia de sacos periodontales. Los fumadores tienen menor sangrado gingival e inflamación, así como también, se produce un retraso en la revascularización de los tejidos duros y blandos y se presentan mayores desafíos en la cicatrización de los sacos periodontales, ocasionando complicaciones en la recuperación del paciente.Smoking is considered one of the risk factors for periodontal disease, since tobacco smoke contains a number of harmful components, such as nicotine, which alter the microenvironment of the periodontium, for this reason the individual becomes more prone to diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis. In the case of periodontitis, this is characterized by the presence of periodontal sacs. Smokers have less gingival bleeding and inflammation, as well as a delay in the revascularization of hard and soft tissues and there are greater challenges in the healing of the periodontal sacs, causing complications in the recovery of the patient.Universidad de Guayaquil.
