Este trabajo investigativo tuvo como objetivo general caracterizar el estrés académico que presentan los estudiantes universitarios del Primer Semestre de la Facultad de Ciencias Psicológicas de la Universidad de Guayaquil durante el año 2016. Dentro de una perspectiva general de investigación cualitativa y asumiendo una modalidad de estudio de caso, se estudió una muestra de 280 estudiantes dentro de dicho contexto, sin embargo por diversas razones como: ausentismo de los estudiantes, no disponer de la información completa acerca de que alumnos se encuentran en cada jornada y paralelo, y la espera de permisos varios entre otras, sólo se pudo trabajar con 160 de los mismos. Posteriormente a la firma del Consentimiento informado, se aplicaron el Inventario SISCO del Estrés Académico y la Composición „„Me Estreso‟‟. Los resultados más significativos que se obtuvieron revelan que los participantes presentan estrés académico de nivel moderado, sin existir diferencias significativas entre el nivel presentado entre las jornadas ni entre la frecuencia con que se manifiesta algún tipo de reacción física, psicológica o comportamentalaking stress into account as a real and adaptive phenomenon, the individual way that each student goes through the university stage will depend on their adaptation to different stressors so that it effectively meets a series of demands.
