It requires the ability to decode words and sentences, as well as to comprehend the meaning of the text. Reading is a vital skill for communicating, learning, and understanding information. The observation was made to students of the eight-grade of the Clemente Yerovi Indaburu Fiscal Educational Unit; applying research instruments such as teachers and students questionnaires. The data obtained from the analysis process determined a lack of motivation and developing of reading skills in English. The modality will be of mixed character, combining the funcionalities of the quantitative character and of the qualitative character. The conclusion and recommendations obtained were analyzed through the results. It is tested through a hypothesis that stories and fables improve reading skills, consequently developing a booklet containing short tales and fables to improve reading skills in the English language.La lectura es una habilidad lingüística que implica entender y comprender el lenguaje escrito. Requiere la capacidad de decodificar palabras y frases, así como de comprender el significado del texto. La lectura es una habilidad vital para comunicar, aprender y comprender información. La observación se hizo a los estudiantes de octavo grado de la Unidad Educativa Fiscal Clemente Yerovi Indaburu; aplicando instrumentos de investigación como cuestionarios de profesores y estudiantes. Los datos obtenidos del proceso de análisis determinaron una falta de motivación y desarrollo de habilidades de lectura en inglés. La modalidad será de carácter mixto, combinando las funcionalidades del carácter cuantitativo y del carácter cualitativo. Se analizaron las conclusiones y recomendaciones obtenidas a través de los resultados. Se prueba a través de una hipótesis que las historias y las fábulas mejoran las habilidad lectora, consecuentemente desarrollando un folleto que contiene cuentos cortos y fábulas para mejorar las habilidades de lectura en el idioma inglés.Universidad de Guayaquil.
