Multiple factors affect their development of reading skills, including not learn at home. To understand the factors integral to reading comprehension, this study explored the relative importance of working memory, vocabulary, fluency, word recognition, reading strategies, reading games and reading stages; therefore reading is a multifaceted process that develops only with practice. These aspects must be mastered but at the same time reading comprehension should be emphasized in the process. Participants were the students of 8th grade of Francisco Huerta Rendón‖ High School where there was evident a failure in reading skill so, some instruments such us the observation sheet, survey and the interview were essential for identify the causes of the problem in that institution, the results were the insufficiency in reading skill but, the researchers of this project find the solution to this issue the creation of a handbook with reading comprehension activities where students can enhance reading skill based on stories that happens in real life and they can associated them with their prior knowledgeLos estudiantes tienen dificultades de lectura. Múltiples factores afectan su desarrollo de habilidades de lectura, incluso no aprender en casa. Para comprender los factores integrales de la comprensión lectora, este estudio exploró la importancia relativa de la memoria de trabajo, el vocabulario, la fluidez, el reconocimiento de palabras, las estrategias de lectura, los juegos de lectura y las etapas de lectura; por lo tanto, leer es un proceso multifacético que se desarrolla solo con la práctica. Estos aspectos deben dominarse, pero al mismo tiempo se debe enfatizar la comprensión de lectura en el proceso. Los participantes fueron los estudiantes de 8 ° grado de la Escuela Secundaria Francisco Huerta Rendón, donde se evidenció una falla en la habilidad lectora, por lo que algunos instrumentos como la hoja de observación, la encuesta y la entrevista fueron esenciales para identificar las causas del problema en esa institución. Los resultados fueron la insuficiencia en la habilidad lectora, pero los investigadores de este proyecto encontraron la solución a este problema, la creación de un manual con actividades de comprensión de lectura donde los estudiantes pueden mejorar la habilidad de lectura basada en historias que ocurren en la vida real y pueden asociarlas con su conocimiento previo.Universidad de Guayaquil.
