This present investigation was put into operation within the facilities of the "Miraflores" Educational Unit, specifically for eighth-year students of basic general education (EGB), where data was collected using research techniques and instruments. Through the data obtained from the surveys, it was interpreted in the tables and graphs that students consider reading ability important in the classroom. From the interviews, it was verified that, according to the strategies and procedures of the English teacher, there were students who needed to improve their reading skills. Consequently, the elaboration of a didactic guide with short stories based on activities was proposed. In this way, teachers and students can benefit from its use as a teaching tool.Este proyecto se ha realizado para determinar la influencia de los cuentos para mejorar la comprensión lectora en lengua inglesa. La presente investigación se puso en funcionamiento dentro de las instalaciones de la Unidad Educativa “Miraflores”, específicamente para estudiantes de octavo año de educación general básica (EGB), donde se recolectó datos utilizando técnicas e instrumentos de investigación. A través de los datos obtenidos de las encuestas, se interpretó en las tablas y gráficos que los estudiantes consideran importante la habilidad lectora en el aula. A partir de las entrevistas se verificó que, de acuerdo con las estrategias y procedimientos de la docente de inglés, había estudiantes que necesitaban mejorar sus habilidades lectoras. En consecuencia, se propuso la elaboración de una guía didáctica con cuentos basados en actividades. De esta forma, profesores y alumnos pueden beneficiarse de su uso como herramienta didáctica.Universidad de Guayaquil.
