El presente proyecto de investigación, el cual se elaboró en el Cementerio Patrimonial de la ciudad de Guayaquil, tiene la finalidad de analizar su situación y proponer estrategias que ayuden a su desarrollo e incidan en la creación de nuevos productos turísticos. El Tanatoturismo se muestra como una tendencia nueva para difundir el patrimonio cultural e histórico de un destino. El presente trabajo busca identificar el potencial que tiene el Cementerio Patrimonial de Guayaquil para poder desarrollarse, basándose en la recolección de datos y revisión de documentos relacionados. Lo que permitió recolectar la información necesaria y del mismo modo aportó a la generación de estrategias para su desarrollo. Los resultados muestran interés de un segmento de la población por conocer a través del Tanatoturismo la historia de la ciudad; mientras que, por otro lado, a pesar de no estar potencialmente interesados, indican que es posible que exista acogida de esta actividad dado su atractivo. Finalmente se determinaron a las principales limitaciones que tiene el objeto en estudio, las cuales se basan en la inseguridad de la zona, el desinterés de los actores clave y el poco protagonismo que tiene el destino por sobre otros destinos dentro de la ciudad.The development of the activity of thanatotourism in the city of Guayaquil is quite limited by factors such as lack of knowledge, existing taboos in the population, among others. The present research project, which was elaborated in the Patrimonial Cemetery of the city of Guayaquil, has the purpose of analyzing its situation and proposing strategies that help its development and influence the creation of new tourist products. Thanatotourism is shown as a new trend to disseminate the cultural and historical heritage of a destination. The present work seeks to identify the potential of Guayaquil's Heritage Cemetery to be developed, based on the collection of data and review of related documents. This allowed the collection of the necessary information and in the same way contributed to the generation of strategies for its development. The results show the interest of a segment of the population in learning about the history of the city through thanatotourism; while, on the other hand, despite not being potentially interested, they indicate that it is possible that this activity could be welcomed given its attractiveness.
