El objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es Determinar el estado de salud bucal que presentan los niños de educación básica de la Escuela Fiscal Mixta Nº257 “Rafaela Vallejo Barahona”, con una metodología de enfoque cuantitativo, por el motivo que se midió la prevalencia de caries dental y de enfermedad periodontal de 108 niños con un rango de edad de 5 a 11 años que asisten a la Escuela, se analizó el género y edad de mayor prevalencia, así mismo se utilizó un instrumento para medir el conocimiento de salud bucal de padres de familia y docentes, el cual constó de 15 preguntas con 4 alternativas cada una. Dando como resultados que los niños presentan un estado de salud bucal bueno con un 74% obtenido del total de los índices CPOD y Ceod. El género de mayor prevalencia de caries dental fue el género masculino con un 53% de la muestra, la edad de mayor prevalencia de caries dental fue de 8 años, la prevalencia de caries dental fue de 82% en dientes temporales o deciduos y con un 65% en dientes permanentes. La prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal fue de 74% obtenido del índice IHOS. El nivel de conocimiento de los padres de familia sobre salud bucal en niños fue del 54% mientras que los docentes presentaron un nivel de conocimiento de 74%, lo que determinó que los docentes conocen más sobre salud bucal en niños que los padres de familia.The oral health status of children in their school stage is the responsibility of parents and teachers, both must have the appropriate knowledge about the general and oral health care of children. The objective of this research work is: To determine the state of oral health presented by the children of basic education of the Mixed Fiscal School Nº257 “Rafaela Vallejo Barahona”, with a quantitative approach methodology, for the reason that the prevalence of Dental caries and periodontal disease of 108 children with an age range of 5 to 11 years attending school, the gender and age of highest prevalence were analyzed, also an instrument was used to measure the oral health knowledge of parents of family and teachers, which consisted of 15 questions with 4 alternatives each. As a result, children have a good oral health status with 74% obtained from the total CPOD and Ceod indices. The gender with the highest prevalence of dental caries was the male gender with 53% of the sample, the age with the highest prevalence of dental caries is 8 years, the prevalence of dental caries was 82% in temporary or deciduous teeth and with a 65% in permanent teeth. The prevalence of periodontal disease was 74% obtained from the IHOS index.
