Para el sector rural el crecimiento en beneficio de los pobres, significa aumentar la productividad agrícola para así aumentar los ingresos. Al hablar de Desarrollo Rural hacemos referencia a acciones e iniciativas llevadas a cabo para mejorar la calidad de vida de las comunidades no urbanas, debiendo tener en cuenta la cultura tradicional local. Para ello, el tema se desarrollará en tres capítulos, de los cuales el primero se enfocará en la Visión general del Desarrollo Rural en el Litoral Ecuatoriano, donde se revisará los conceptos de Economía y Desarrollo, concepciones y diferencias entre definiciones; además del análisis del Desarrollo Rural, su importancia antes y después del petróleo y finalmente estudiaremos las características, tendencias y la evolución del agro. El capítulo 2 se centrará en el periodo 2007 – 2008, en este analizaremos las Dimensiones del Desarrollo Rural del Litoral Ecuatoriano a través del estudio de las características macroeconómicas del país, una visión actual del agro, el aporte de éste en la dinámica económica del país, pero además revisaremos las políticas que han aplicado el gobierno durante esteAbout three quarters of the world's poorest people live in rural areas and depend on agriculture for their livelihood .
