Los terceros molares son los dientes que con más frecuencia se hallan semi retenidos, de acuerdo a este orden de frecuencia: - Tercer molar inferior. - Tercer molar superior. - Canino superior. - Segundo bicúspide inferior. - Canino inferior. - Segundo bicúspide superior. - Incisivo central superior. - Incisivo lateral superior. El tercer molar es el último diente en erupcionar, por lo que fácilmente puede quedar impactado o sufrir desplazamientos, si no hay espacio suficiente en la arcada dentaria. Es por esto que su exodoncia es uno de los procedimientos más importantes de Cirugía Bucal y que se lleva a cabo con mayor frecuencia en la práctica diaria del odontólogo.
