Este procedimiento se puede llevar a cabo clínicamente, es decir directamente en la cavidad bucal del paciente (rebasado directo) o bien en un procedimiento de laboratorio (rebasado indirecto). Objetivo general determinar qué tipo de técnica es favorable en rebase de prótesis removibles totales. Métodos: Se empleó el método histórico ya que se examinaron fuentes primarias y secundarias, entre estas dos fuentes están bibliográficas clásicas de la ciencia odontológica así como publicaciones de estudios realizados los últimos 5 y 10 años donde se consiguió establecer las diferencias entre técnicas directa e indirecta en rebase de prótesis removibles totales. Resultados: El rebasado solo se debe realizar cuando las alteraciones protésicas son necesarias, es decir, solo si esta necesita reparación. El rebasado de una prótesis es un procedimiento que debe ser manejado por todos los profesionales que realizan rehabilitación con prótesis totales, especialmente el rebasado se realiza cuando la prótesis pierde su retención y los factores que influyen en esta situación son variados. En el rebasado directo el material se coloca sobre la superficie interna de la base de la prótesis, preparada previamente y se lleva en conjunto a la cavidad bucal. Luego de alcanzado el endurecimiento del material de rebasado, se retira, se elimina los excesos y se pule. Sin embargo, en el rebasado indirecto se toma una impresión de la estructura de soporte mediante un material para impresiones utilizando la misma prótesis sobre la cubeta. Sobre el correspondiente modelo se procesa en el laboratorio el material del rebasadoThe term rebase refers to the production of a new sedimentation surface in an existing prosthesis or also to the replacement of most of the material that is that surface.
