La demanda odontológica generalmente es cuando existen episodios de dolor o cuando la estética está comprometida, en el caso del agrandamiento gingival puede ser asintomático, sin embargo, el crecimiento excesivo de la encía provoca cambios estructurales negativos para la armonía de la sonrisa. El tratamiento puede ser quirúrgico o no quirúrgico, todo depende de un correcto diagnóstico y planes terapéuticos ajustados a las necesidades funcionales y estéticas de los pacientes. Se presenta el caso clínico de mujer de 38 años de edad, sistémicamente saludable, con agrandamiento gingival localizado a nivel papilar de origen idiopático, atendido en la Facultad Piloto de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil, en el periodo académico 2019-2020 ciclo II. El objetivo es tratar el AG mediante la técnica de gingivectomía. La metodología aplicada es del tipo no experimental, con observación clínica directa. Se concluye que la técnica quirúrgica de gingivectomía es un procedimiento apropiado para tratar el AG, ya que se obtienen resultados clínicos favorables para la estética y función de la encíaThe gingival pathologies are diverse, among them we have gingival enlargement (AG), which is the increase in gum volume in any of its areas, this condition has a direct impact on the patient's oral health, as well as on his condition emotional. The dental demand is usually when there are episodes of pain or when the aesthetic is compromised, in the case of gingival enlargement it can be asymptomatic, however, the excessive growth of the gum causes negative structural changes for the harmony of the smile. The treatment can be surgical or non-surgical, everything depends on a correct diagnosis and therapeutic plans adjusted to the functional and aesthetic needs of the patients. The clinical case of a 38-year-old woman, systemically healthy, with gingival enlargement located at the papillary level of idiopathic origin, attended at the Pilot School of Dentistry of the University of Guayaquil, in the academic period 2019-2020 cycle II is presented. The objective is to treat the AG using the gingivectomy technique. The methodology applied is of the non-experimental type, with direct clinical observation. It is concluded that the gingivectomy surgical technique is an appropriate procedure to treat AG, since favorable clinical results are obtained for the aesthetics and function of the gumUniversidad de Guayaquil.
