In order to obtain the most accurate and reliable data, it was considered research methods and empirical techniques. Through this process, the problem identified in these courses was examined closely, and from different perspectives. Resulting on the selection of a proper method to solve this problem. Through the literature consulted, it could be obtained several guidelines to overcome the deficiencies on reading, and along the analyzed data obtained through the research instruments. It was came up to the conclusion that the extensive reading approach might be what the teacher needs to implement in class in order to develop reading comprehension properly. The extensive reading approach provide both learners and teachers several advantages when working or developing reading comprehension, which along other reading strategies makes of this approach the ultimate method for students to learn better. Thus, it is concluded that the design of a system of activities based on the extensive reading approach is the best alternative to treat the problem of these group of students, allowing them to obtain the level established by the English National Curriculum GuidelinesEste proyecto de tesis está dirigido a determinar qué tan influyente es el enfoque extensivo de lectura al desarrollar la comprensión lectora, y dilucidar el impacto que este enfoque podría tener en los estudiantes de inglés pertenecientes al décimo grado de las secciones "A" y "B" de educación general básica del Colegio Carlos Matamoros Jara. Para obtener los datos más precisos y confiables, se consideraron métodos de investigación y técnicas empíricas. A través de este proceso, el problema identificado en estos cursos fue examinado de cerca, y desde diferentes perspectivas. Resultando en la selección de un método adecuado para resolver este problema. A través de la literatura consultada, se pudieron obtener varias pautas para superar las deficiencias en la lectura, y a lo largo de los datos analizados obtenidos a través de los instrumentos de investigación. se llegó a la conclusión de que el enfoque de lectura extensiva podría ser lo que el maestro necesita implementar en clase para desarrollar la comprensión de lectura correctamente. El enfoque de lectura extensiva proporciona a los alumnos y docentes varias ventajas cuando trabajan o desarrollan la comprensión de lectura, lo que junto con otras estrategias de lectura hacen de este enfoque el método definitivo para que los alumnos aprendan mejor. Por lo tanto, se concluye que el diseño de un sistema de actividades basado en el enfoque de lectura extensiva es la mejor alternativa para tratar el problema de este grupo de estudiantes, lo que les permitirá obtener el nivel establecido por las Guías Curriculares del InglésUniversidad de Guayaquil.
