Los frenillos son patológicos cuando se encuentran insertados incorrectamente en la cavidad oral ocasionando una serie de alteraciones gingivo-dentales. Así pues, el frenillo lingual anómalo mantiene a la lengua atada al piso bucal dificultando los movimientos propios de la misma produciendo problemas morfo-funcionales como diastemas, maloclusión, periodontales, problemas de lactancia, de ortodoncia, fonéticos, etc, afectando salud oral y estética del individuo. Los problemas de lenguaje o fonación causados por dicha anomalía, harán que la persona presente dislalia de algunas consonantes alveolo- lingual y dento-linguales como t/d/l/n/s/z/r. El objetivo de ésta investigación es determinar el nivel de conocimiento respecto al manejo quirúrgico del frenillo lingual y su participación en las alteraciones del habla, de los estudiantes de décimo semestre de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de tipo cuantitativo, para obtener resultados se efectuaron encuestas dirigidas a los estudiantes de décimo semestre. Los resultados demostraron que de la muestra de 150 estudiantes, el 83% tienen un conocimiento adecuado y el 17% restante no lo tienen. En general, es importante que el odontólogo en conjunto con un logopeda, terapista lingual y fonético haga un diagnóstico correcto que permita realizar un tratamiento integral para rehabilitar la cavidad bucal del paciente.The frena are epithelial inserts that are found in the lateral, upper and lower middle of the mouth. The frena are pathological congenital issues when they are inserted incorrectly in the oral cavity; thus causing a series of gingiva-dental alterations. Thus, the anomalous lingual frenulum keeps the tongue attached to the oral floor and thus limiting its movements. Subsequently, this produces morpho-functional problems such as diastema, malocclusion, periodontal problems, breastfeeding, orthodontics, phonetics, and so on. The aforementioned problems affect the aesthetics and oral health of the individual. Language or phonation problems caused by this anomaly will cause the person to present dyslalia of some alveololingual and dentilingual consonants such as t / d / l / n / s / z / r. The objective of this research is to determine the level of knowledge regarding the surgical management of the lingual frenulum and its participation in speech alterations, of the tenth semester students of the dentistry faculty of the University of Guayaquil. The methodological design corresponds to a quantitative study based on observation formats. The results showed that 150 students from the sample, 83% present adequate knowledge and the remaining 17% do not. In all, It is important that both the dentist and the speech therapist, lingual and phonetic therapist make a correct diagnosis which facilitates a comprehensive treatment so as to rehabilitate the patient's oral cavity.Universidad de Guayaquil.
