Even though English is mandatory in the national curriculum, numerous students encounter challenges when attempting to improve their listening comprehension, this can have a negative impact on their overall language learning skills. The study identifies the factors that contribute to the problem, the limited auditory exposure in classrooms and the lack of attractive teaching resources. It suggests that authentic audio-visual materials can significantly improve students' listening comprehension ability. The research includes a literature review of authentic materials and a thorough analysis of the results of the survey applied to students. The results show that students would improve their listening comprehension through the use of authentic materials, significantly improving their listening comprehension ability in English. Finally, a system of activities designed specifically for students at level A1.2 is proposed. This system integrates authentic audio-visual materials to promote more effective and motivating learning. The research concludes that this can be a valuable tool to overcome barriers in teaching listening comprehension in English, providing students with a richer learning experience that is connected to the actual use of the language. Esta investigación aborda el problema de la baja comprensión auditiva en inglés entre los estudiantes de Noveno Grado de la Unidad Educativa Fiscal José Joaquín de Olmedo, en Guayaquil. A pesar de que el inglés es obligatorio en el currículo nacional, numerosos estudiantes encuentran desafíos cuando intentan mejorar su comprensión auditiva, esto puede tener un impacto negativo en sus habilidades generales de aprendizaje del idioma. El estudio identifica los factores que contribuyen al problema, la limitada exposición auditiva en las aulas y la falta de recursos didácticos atractivos. Sugiere que los materiales audio-visuales auténticos pueden mejorar significativamente la capacidad de comprensión auditiva de los estudiantes. La investigación incluye una revisión bibliográfica sobre materiales auténticos y un análisis exhaustivo de los resultados de la encuesta aplicada a los estudiantes. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes mejorarían su comprensión auditiva a través del uso materiales auténticos mejorando significativamente su capacidad de comprensión auditiva en inglés. Por último, se propone un sistema de actividades diseñado específicamente para estudiantes de nivel A1.2. Este sistema integra materiales audio-visuales auténticos para promover un aprendizaje más eficaz y motivador.
