Se recopilaron resultados de estudios realizados por otros autores, se investigó la eficiencia de la escala de ansiedad dental modificada (MDAS) para determinar el grado de ansiedad dental en los pacientes, los factores que causan un incremento en sus niveles; siendo una de las escalas más utilizadas en adultos para obtener dichos datos. El objetivo fue determinar el manejo de la escala de ansiedad dental modificada (MDAS), previo a la atención odontológica. El presente es un estudio de tipo exploratorio, no experimental, documental, longitudinal. Se recolectó un total de 53 trabajos de investigación acerca de la ansiedad dental y su valoración mediante la escala MDAS; de estos se seleccionaron 29 trabajos relevantes para el objetivo de la investigación. En cuanto a los resultados, en los trabajos de investigación analizados, predominó el nivel de ansiedad moderado en el género masculino y el nivel de ansiedad elevado en el género femenino, siendo éste último, el más propenso a presentar ansiedad dental y quienes presentaron los niveles más altos. Se observó que los pacientes con mayor conocimiento acerca de los procedimientos a los que serían sometidos presentaban mayor ansiedad. Se evidenció presencia de ansiedad en los pacientes más jóvenes, la cual resultó ser incluso más elevada que en otros rangos de edad; presentándose en menor proporción en pacientes adultos en un rango de 51 a 60 años de edad.Anxiety is a psychophysiological manifestation of alertness to certain situations, events or stimuli captured as dangerous or threatening, whether real or imaginary. Results were collected from studies conducted by other authors, the efficiency of the modified dental anxiety scale (MDAS) was investigated to determine the degree of dental anxiety in patients, the factors that cause an increase in their levels; being one of the most widely used scales in adults to obtain such data. The objective was to determine the management of the modified dental anxiety scale (MDAS), prior to dental care. The present is an exploratory, non-experimental, documentary, longitudinal study. A total of 53 research papers were collected about dental anxiety and its assessment using the MDAS scale; of these, 29 papers relevant to the research objective were selected. As for the results, in the research work analyzed, the level of moderate anxiety in the male gender prevailed and the high level of anxiety in the female gender, the latter being the most likely to present dental anxiety and those who had the highest levels. It was observed that patients with greater knowledge procedures they would be subjected to had greater anxiety.
