Resumo:This paper deals with complete oral rehabilitation of a 50 year old male patient. The patient reported a history of trauma and alcoholism and is fully edentulous in the maxilla and has a partially edentulous jaw. The maxilla presented a reduced anterior residual ridge and the tuberosities slightly increased. The maxilla was rehabilitated by a removable complete denture, replacing a maladaptive prosthesis tailored over 25 years ago. The mandible showed deteriorated incisors and one bicuspid only, with marked extrusion. The posterior residual ridges appeared diminished. To rehabilitate the jaw existing teeth were used as support for an overdenture. To provide this prosthesis with retention three axial extracoronal o-ring attachments were used. Additionally, the patient presents signs of combination syndrome, even though he has never used a removable partial denture in the jaw. As a result, in order to maintain an optimal vertical dimension, an optimal smile line was no achieved and the lips were slightly protruded.
