Shrnutí:The present study analyzes the problem of animal abuse and abandonment in Guayaquil, addressing its causes, consequences and mitigation initiatives. Despite the efforts of the government and civil organizations, violence against animals continues to be a significant challenge, associated with sociocultural, economic and regulatory factors. The relationship between animal abuse and other forms of social violence is examined, as well as the environmental and health impact of street animals. Through a mixed methodology, which includes a bibliographic review, surveys and interviews, patterns of abuse, citizen perception and effectiveness of animal protection policies are identified. The findings highlight the need to strengthen legislation, improve sterilization programs and strengthen responsible ownership education. As a result, strategies are proposed to reduce abuse and promote a culture of respect and animal welfare in Guayaquil.
