Desigualdad y crecimiento económico en Ecuador, ¿se cumple la hipótesis de Kuznets?

الملخص:The Kuznets hypothesis suggests that, an increase in personal income increases inequality in the short term, but decreases it in the long term, as the labor force is migrating between economic sectors with different levels of productivity. This idea was widely accepted for many years, with few studies to corroborate it. However, according to statistical techniques, access to quality statistical data was being outlined and expanded, evidence for and against the hypothesis was added, generating an unfinished debate. This paper delves into the Kuznets hypothesis, setting itself the objective of verifying if this is fulfilled in Ecuador for the period between 2003 and 2018. For this, a polynomial regression model was formulated, making two estimates with it. The first estimate is made using the variables Gini coefficient and GDP per capita expressed in natural logarithm; and, second, between the participation in income and the GDP per capita expressed in logarithms. Although it is true, the model complies with the assumptions established by the Kuznets hypothesis and presents, in its generality, statistical significance, but an individual evaluation of the parameters allows to conclude that the Kuznets hypothesis is not fulfilled for Ecuador.
