Summary:Shrimp producers in the province of Guayas provide significant foreign currency to the Ecuadorian State, this study aims to analyze the social and economic situation of the shrimp industry in the province of Guayas in the periods 2019-2020. The shrimp sector provides jobs to a good percentage of people who mostly live in the coastal zone because the weather conditions are favorable for these activities. Shrimp production occupies the second place of export products after bananas. The Methodology applied is descriptive and the approach is qualitative-quantitative because it provides facilities to demonstrate results, the techniques applied were observation and surveys, the same ones that were applied to 226 shrimp producers, the results determined that there are several factors that negatively influence the production and marketing process, among which we can highlight the absence of a socioeconomic diagnosis, very long marketing channels, the lack of government support to establish agreements with European and North American countries with which exports could be expanded, the The results obtained from the observations, bibliographical review and application of the surveys allowed us to conclude that in order to reverse the problematic situation in shrimp production, socioeconomic diagnoses must be carried out that provide information on the different strategies that aquaculturists can implement in order to improve their productivity, marketing and therefore their quality of life.
