Summary:The objective of this essay is to analyze the theoretical debate on the interrelation of the conceptual variables of the museum, identity and university philosophy, based on an approach to the challenges presented by higher education in the Latin American and Ecuadorian context. It analyzes the expressions that identity can have in its individual and collective dimensions in its links with university social responsibility as tools that must be managed and exhibited from university museums. It also explains how the axiological foundations of education can identify potentials and challenges for higher education in Latin America and Ecuador to improve the work with values, institutional image and culture of the university community. The proposed solutions discussed and presented as part of the final results are not intended to be conclusive but rather constitute the starting point to raise awareness and reflect on the relevance of these issues driven by the policies of the university authorities in order to gradually incorporate them into the work agendas of the different educational instances.
