Estos retrasos acarrean costos adicionales y pérdidas económicas. El Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo informa que este problema afecta alrededor del 40% de los proyectos viales en América Latina y el Caribe. En Ecuador, las estadísticas del Ministerio de Transporte revelan un aumento en los retrasos en los últimos cinco años, atribuidos principalmente a errores en la planificación. Ante esto, se propone investigar la aplicabilidad de la metodología Lean Construction en la planificación de proyectos viales. Esta metodología se basa en principios de gestión que buscan la mejora continua y la maximización del valor para el cliente.
