| 要約: | This research evaluates the mechanical properties of pavement by incorporating polypropylene as an additive in asphalt mixtures, aiming to improve the rehabilitation of second-order roads in the canton of Durán, Ecuador. The study focuses on analyzing how the addition of polypropylene, a polymer derived from plastic recycling, can increase wear resistance, load capacity, and pavement durability, thereby reducing long-term maintenance costs. Laboratory tests, including the Marshall method, were conducted to compare the mechanical properties of conventional asphalt mixtures with those modified with polypropylene. The results showed that the mixture with 6% of AC – 20 with polypropylene presented the best balance between stability, flow, and void content, complying with the MOP-001-F 2002 regulations. Additionally, a plastic waste management plan is proposed to promote a circular economy and reduce environmental pollution. The research concludes that the use of polypropylene in asphalt mixtures not only improves the mechanical properties of the pavement but also contributes to environmental sustainability. |
