Description
Summary:This study seeks to develop construction blocks from recycled plastic and guadua bamboo to promote sustainable alternatives for social housing in Chongón. The study was chiefly interested in reducing plastic waste and enhancing the structural contributions of guadua bamboo. A block with 5%, 10%, and 15% bamboo and plastic compositions subjected to compression tests for mechanical strength determination. The results show that the compressive strength increased with the increasing percentage of material, achieving a compressive strength of about 4MPa for blocks with 15% composition. However, strength differences were apparent due to variation in material distribution and compaction during manufacture. It recommended that mingling and compacting processes should be improved for more consistent results in the studies on durability and environmental performance. The results indicate that the combination of recycled plastic and guadua bamboo presents a viable option for sustainable construction, and further promotes circular economy principles and reduced environmental impacts on the construction industry.
