Crynodeb:The study focuses on addressing the protection needs of vulnerable communities in Naranjal, Ecuador, against natural risks such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods. An innovative pop-up shelter design is proposed that combines the origami technique with local cultural elements to create an adaptable and functional solution. This shelter is built with materials present in the canton and is firmly anchored to a concrete base to guarantee stability and resistance in crisis situations. Inspired by the shape of a crab, the design not only seeks functionality, but also highlights the cultural identity of the region. Architectural details and a color palette inspired by the surrounding nature are incorporated to create an immersive environment that connects occupants with their surroundings. In addition to its primary protective function, the shelter provides space to store non-perishable food and promotes sustainable construction and design practices. The use of eco-friendly generators for energy is prioritized, which contributes to a more sustainable operation of the project.
