Тойм:Political asylum is a fundamental right that protects the lives of people persecuted for race, religion, nationality, political opinions, or membership in a particular social group. The case of Jorge Glas was treated internationally by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (ICJ) due to its judicial precedents that could lead to this action generated by both Ecuador and México. The decision to grant asylum by México to the former vice president of Ecuador, Jorge Glas, will be analyzed by this investigative work based on the theories, scope, and comparative law between the legislations of both states to determine if the granting of the figure of asylum was done under the principle of legality by the international treaties and agreements signed by Ecuador and Mexico. Thus, the qualitative methodology will be implemented in its different aspects to demonstrate the global effect that led to granting asylum to Jorge Glas, a person with a criminally enforceable sentence for committing common crimes, illicit association, and aggravated passive bribery, classified within the Ecuadorian Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code.
