Résumé:Road infrastructure is fundamental to a country's economic development. It acts as an important link between production and consumption centers, so the condition of roads is a decisive factor in transportation costs and, consequently, influences trade flows. For this reason, road construction and maintenance require greater attention and priority. As a bypass of the canton of Valencia in Ecuador, Rocafuerte Avenue is vital to the transportation system and regional mobility. Its use as a bypass has decongested the city center, allowing for the efficient circulation of commercial vehicles as well as public and private transportation. Despite the strategic importance of Rocafuerte Avenue for the canton of Valencia, its current state of deterioration represents a significant challenge. The accelerated growth of the population and the constant increase in traffic have generated considerable wear on the pavement and infrastructure of the road. This situation presents a clear threat to road safety, both for drivers and pedestrians, as it can cause accidents and put the integrity of those who travel on the road at risk. To guarantee the functionality and durability of this important bypass, it is urgent to carry out a comprehensive maintenance program, including previous studies to determine the width of the road and the optimal thickness of the asphalt layer. A proactive approach to improving the road infrastructure will ensure safe and fluid mobility, thus enhancing the socioeconomic development of the region and the quality of life of its inhabitants.
