Description
Summary:This study compares two pavement alternatives for the road section from the cantonal head of Yaguachi to the Vuelta Larga area, evaluating costs and long-term maintenance. The analyzed options include a cement-stabilized base and a Type 1 base-subbase, aiming to determine the most efficient and sustainable solution. A technical analysis was conducted, considering factors such as structural capacity, durability, load resistance, and local climatic conditions. Additionally, the economic study assessed initial construction costs, maintenance expenses, and the service life of each alternative. The results indicate that the cement-stabilized base offers greater structural resistance and lower maintenance requirements in the medium and long term, making it a more durable option. However, its initial cost is higher compared to the Type 1 base-subbase, which, despite requiring a lower investment, demands more frequent maintenance, increasing operational costs over time. In conclusion, the choice between these alternatives depends on the available budget and cost projections. While the cement-stabilized base requires a higher initial investment, its lower maintenance needs could lead to significant savings throughout the road's lifespan.
