| Summary: | This research aims to establish the relationship between emotional intelligence and emotional regulation in adolescents. The research is quantitative, and has a descriptive and correlational, cross-sectional scope. The research was carried out on 112 adolescents between 15 and 17 years old who agreed to participate freely and voluntarily. To evaluate the adolescents, two tools were used: the Trait Meta Mood Scale-24 (TMMS-24) and the Emotion-Regulation Skills Questionnaire (ERSQ). In the emotional intelligence variable, there were differences in the results achieved by men and women: clarity of feelings and emotional repair was higher in men; while emotional attention was higher in women (the attention and emotional repair factors did not present differences by sex). Regarding emotional regulation, men presented higher means in all components of the instrument, except sensation (equal), and willingness to confront (lower). At the same time, a positive and moderate relationship was found between the clarity factor of emotional intelligence and the competencies of awareness, clarity, understanding, acceptance and tolerance of emotional regulation, which shows that the higher the emotional intelligence, the greater the regulation capacity that adolescents will present. |
