Résumé:ABSTRACT: A literature review was carried out to determine the clinical and psychological management to treat the digital sucking habit. The main therapeutic alternatives are described, which can be classified into two groups: behavioral and psychological therapy and intraoral appliances. Intraoral appliances, especially the use of Bluegrass and the palatal grid, are the treatment regularly used to eliminate the digital sucking habit and for which the most significant amount of scientific evidence is found in the articles reviewed. The various causes that precede the digital sucking habit were recognized, such as intrafamilial psychological factors together with fear, stress, anxiety, and oral frustration. The latter seems to be one of the most important and frequent causes because sucking as such satisfies the three needs of the developing organism. The family can avoid establishing habits and lifestyles, since in the neglect of the affective needs of the child, they translate into emotional disorders expressed through the appearance of deforming oral habits.
