Add Tag | Summary: | Sustainable tourism has become a fundamental pillar between economic development, environmental protection, and respect for local culture. The objective of this research is to analyze the development of sustainable tourism with a focus on environmental care in the Matriz parish, Guano canton, Chimborazo province, and it was carried out through the review of documentary and bibliographic sources that study environmental best practices and the impacts of tourism in the area. This study used a mixed methodological approach, combining documentary and observational research. The research design is descriptive, cross-sectional and field-based, which allowed for a clear understanding of current waste management practices and the impact of tourism on the community. Additionally, surveys were conducted with the economically active population (EAP) of Guano, collecting qualitative and quantitative data that enriched the analysis of the local reality. The survey results showed that most of the population recognizes the relevance of sustainable tourism in improving the parish´s environmental, sociocultural, and economic conditions. In particular, the environmental dimension was highlighted due to the need to implement effective waste management practices, given the increased plastic pollution. Finally, the “Comprehensive Program of Recycling Stations to Promote Sustainability in the Matriz Parish, Guano Canton”, is proposed as an essential initiative to reduce pollution and improve plastic waste management. This proposal is vital for sustainable tourism development in the area because it will foster a culture of sustainability among the local community and tourists, improving environmental quality and positioning Guano as a model for good environmental practices in the tourism sector. |
