Özet:Fair trade is an activity that provides the opportunity for equal conditions and fair competition between merchants and producers, whose popularity has been increasing and, at the same time, influencing the development of the merchants of the Eastern Market in the city of Riobamba. We apply the hypothetical-deductive method through descriptive and field research with a nonexperimental design to do this. The instrument used for data collection was a 12-question survey of 189 clothing merchants belonging to the “Oriental Market” obtained from the matrix. The hypothesis was tested using the chi-square test, where we determined the incidence of the independent variable fair trade, resulting in a bilateral asymptotic significance of 0.000, which is less than the proposed confidence index of 0.05, so it is rejected. The null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis are accepted. Based on the results obtained, fair trade affects the development of clothing merchants in the Eastern Market of Riobamba. To improve development through practical practices, an appropriate transaction between formal and informal sellers to enhance their lifestyle.
