Resumo:Modern dentistry faces significant challenges in providing effective and safe pain management treatments, which are essential for enhancing the dental experience and supporting long-term oral health. Acupuncture, a minimally invasive technique from traditional Chinese medicine, employs fine needles inserted into specific channels or meridians to influence the body's health positively. A systematic search of scientific literature was conducted, examining 31 articles published in the last 10 years that are freely accessible, focusing specifically on those directly related to this topic. The research adhered to PRISMA guidelines and utilized various databases, including PubMed, ScieLo, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The findings indicate that acupuncture demonstrates high effectiveness and efficiency in managing pain across different dental pathologies in patients of all ages and genders. This technique offers a less invasive treatment option with excellent safety, presenting a viable alternative to conventional methods, such as medications. Both patients and dentists have accepted acupuncture as a promising solution for managing intraoperative and postoperative pain, with minimal adverse reactions that could affect the patient’s health and a significant reduction in the use of conventional drugs.
