| Streszczenie: | Drinking water is a remarkable importance for human beings, however, in Ecuador there are difficulties in the distribution of this basic service. In the province of Chimborazo, according to (ARCA, 2021), there are five cantons that have a “Low” performance, which includes the Guano canton. The non-periodic maintenance and inappropriate management of the drinking water supply networks in the El Rosario parish create problems of great magnitude. In the El Rosario parish, leaks constantly occur, generating considerable economic losses in the canton, so in this research the main objective is to determine the incidence of leaks in the drinking water supply networks in the Guano canton, El Rosario parish, Likewise, to know the areas where there is a higher incidence of leaks, for which an analysis was carried out using a mixed methodology. In the on-site visits, qualitative data was obtained where information and characteristics of the maintenance and operation of the drinking water distribution systems were obtained. The quantitative data was used for the analysis of the technical water balance, it was analyzed from April 2021 to December 2022. The results show that in the El Rosario parish the average percentage of uncontrolled leakage flow is 60.91% and presents a water index unaccounted for (ANC) of 61.29%, placing it at a “Low” performance level. While the overall average performance of the system is 38.71%, obtaining an “Unacceptable” rating, therefore the most affected network is “Network 2”, in which 2 neighborhoods with the highest rate of leaks were identified, which are San Miguel. from Langos and San Gabriel Airport. Finally, to considerably minimize drinking water and economic losses, several solutions were proposed for the correct management of leaks and minimize the water and economic losses that occur in the canton |
