Código Deontológico del periodista ecuatoriano y su cumplimiento en los medios de comunicación digitales de Riobamba

This study analyzes the degree of compliance with the ontological code of Ecuadorian journalists in the digital media outlets "La Antorcha" and "Intermedia Ecuador." The main objective is to evaluate how ethical principles are applied in communication practices within the digital environment. The research employs a qualitative approach to understand journalistic behavior and decision-making from an interpretive perspective. The analysis identifies recurring patterns in news coverage, revealing that the need for speed in publication and competition for digital attention currently affect the depth and accuracy of information. This underscores the necessity to establish strategies that balance immediacy with ethical rigor. The results indicate partial compliance with the code of ethics, highlighting principles such as truthfulness, independence, editorial integrity, respect for human dignity, and transparency in information. In conclusion, both digital media outlets demonstrate a moderate commitment to ethical standards, with notable progress in certain areas. However, some shortcomings must be addressed through the development of formal protocols, training programs, and mechanisms for public rectification, all contributing to the institutionalization of journalistic ethics.
