| Résumé: | INTRODUCTION: Vulvovaginitis (VV) is the inflammation of the vaginal mucosa and vulvar skin clinically evident due to an abnormal discharge, irritating, foul or not, accompanied by pruritus and sometimes dysuria or dyspareunia. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of vulvovaginitis in patients aged 25 to 45 years treated in an outpatient clinic at the IESS Hospital Riobamba 2018. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was carried out based on the research methodology with a retrospective cross-sectional study on a sample of 315 patients diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, vaginal candidiasis and vaginal trichomoniasis treated in an outpatient clinic at the IESS Riobamba Hospital with an analytical-empirical method where variables such as demographic characteristics, development of sexually transmitted infection, sexual behavior and contraceptive use were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 3017 patients between 25 and 45 years of age attended in an outpatient gynecology clinic of the IESS Riobamba Hospital during 2018, of which 1755 presented a diagnosis of vulvovaginitis, when applying the sample formula, our study population It was 315 patients, with bacterial vaginosis being the most frequent with 61.90% (195). Vulvovaginitis presented with the highest prevalence in women between 25 and 35 years old with 56.51% (178); married with 49.21% (155) and mixed with 89.21% (281); 62.54% (197) of women started their sex life between 16 and 20 years; 57.78% (182) of patients have had between 2 to 4 sexual partners; 91.11% (287) of patients diagnosed with vulvovaginitis have not developed an I.T.S and 48.57% (153) do not use contraceptive methods. CONCLUSIONS: it was possible to identify that the prevalence of vulvovaginitis is high, with BV being the most frequent, mainly affecting women between 25 and 35 years old, married, mestizo, who have started their sex life between 16 and 20 years, have had 2 4 sex partners, these women have not developed an STI and most do not use contraceptive methods. |
