The research aims to demonstrate, through the content of the documents, why Proaño’s archive should be considered historical documentary heritage. His legacy remains significant in social aid projects, evangelization, social activism, and education. The archive, located in the Documentary Fund of the Diocese of Riobamba, consists of two sections: documents created by Proaño and a collection of materials about him. It contains correspondence, official documents, and personal testimonies, offering a unique insight into his thoughts and actions. This study not only enriches academic knowledge about Proaño but also underscores the importance of archives in preserving historical memory. Furthermore, it seeks to stimulate debates on the role of the church and religious leaders in defending human rights and social justice. Through qualitative, documentary, and descriptive research methods, the work is organized into chapters detailing the process of gathering, analyzing, and presenting information. The research aims to highlight the significance of Proaño’s archive as a valuable historical and documentary treasure for Riobamba and Ecuador. The research will include results focused on the current state of the archive, the historical importance of archives, and strategies for preservation, which will be useful for initiating further research on the figure |
